Our Mountain Skills courses are an ideal choice for people who want to gain confidence in walking and navigating over mountainous terrain. Our two day course is designed to ensure you get as much time as possible outside, learning and practising new found skills and knowledge whilst having two great days on the mountains! The maximum number of people on our open courses will be 6. This is part of the additional safety measures introduced by us to reflect the Covid-19 period.

Course Description

Our Mountain Skills course is an ideal choice for walkers interested in transferring their walking skills to more mountainous terrain. Ideally, participants would have some basic hill walking experience. The two days are an excellent way of learning  the correct foundation skills for more confident and independent mountain walking.

We ensure you have ample opportunities to experience and practise new found skills including the use of a map and compass. A certificate of attendance from Aim Higher is available for this course.

The maximum number of people on our course will be 6. This is part of the additional safety measures introduced by us to reflect the Covid-19 period.

Note: All our staff are qualified, knowledgeable and will always strive to give you the best experience coupled with ensuring your safety and others.

Course Schedule

  • Meet and greet at 9am on the first day

  1. Discuss the factors which affect planning a walk including weather, clothing and potential hazards.

  2. Route finding and problem solving.

  3. Access and conservation, first aid and emergency procedures.

  4. Navigation including maps and modern technology.

  5. A journey into the mountain environment covering various topics along the way.

  6. Each day finishes around 5.00pm.

Day 2 will be a continuation of the course topics within a mountain journey whilst enjoying some of the best views in Snowdonia!
