Our Mountain Skills courses are an ideal choice for people who want to gain confidence in walking and navigating over mountainous terrain. Our two day course is designed to ensure you get as much time as possible outside, learning and practising new found skills and knowledge. All our instructors are friendly, experienced and will ensure you have a fantastic time exploring the mountains of Snowdonia!

Course Description

The Mountain Skills course is an ideal choice for walkers interested in transferring their walking skills to more mountainous terrain. Ideally, participants would have some basic hill walking experience and have a reasonable level of fitness. Our mountain skills courses are an excellent way of getting the correct foundation skills for mountain walking. We ensure you have ample opportunities to experience and practise new found skills including the use of a map and compass but also to appreciate the different skill set required for walking in the mountains. 

You can also register for the accredited Mountain Skills element of the course. This can be done beforehand by registering with Mountain Training and paying the additional fee of:

For 12-24 yrs: £10

For 25 yrs and Over: £20 

This will provide you with a skills handbook, timing card, online log book and a certificate on completion of our two day course.

Note: All our instructors are qualified, knowledgeable and will always strive to give you the best experience coupled with ensuring your safety and others.

Course Schedule

  1. Meet and greet 9am on day 1 (indoors)
  2. Approx 1 hour theory.
  3. Discuss the factors which affect planning a walk including weather, clothing and technology.
  4. Access and conservation, first aid and emergency procedures.
  5. Route finding and problem solving.
  6. Navigation including maps and modern technology.
  7. A journey into the mountain environment covering various topics along the way.
  8. Each day finishes around 5.00pm.

All timings on the mountain are approximate.
