Course Description

Our Mountain Skills courses are an ideal choice for people who want to feel confident in walking and navigating over mountainous terrain. Ideally you will have a  reasonable level of fitness to get the most out of the course.Our mountain skills courses are accredited via Mountain Training and are an excellent way of getting the correct foundation skills for mountain walking. We ensure you have ample opportunities to experience and practise new found skills  but also to appreciate the different skill set required for walking in the mountains. 

Registration onto the Hill and Mountain Skills scheme with Mountain Training is a pre requisite and is currently £10 for under 18's and £20 for adults which is included in our course fee.

Note: All our instructors are experienced, fully qualified for the course they are responsible for and are qualified first aiders. They will always strive to give you the best experience coupled with ensuring your safety and others.

Course Schedule

  1. Meet and greet 9am on day 1 (indoors)
  2. Approx 1 hour theory.
  3. Discuss the factors which affect planning a walk including weather, clothing and technology.
  4. Access and conservation, first aid and emergency procedures.
  5. Route finding and problem solving.
  6. Navigation including maps and modern technology.
  7. A journey into the mountain environment covering various topics along the way.
  8. Each day finishes around 5.30pm.

All timings on the mountain are approximate.
