Our one day navigation course is aimed at raising your navigation skills
Our navigation courses are led by instructors who have extensive experience in navigating in all sorts of challenging conditions! We like nothing better than passing on our knoweldge in a friendly and practical way so that you get the most out of the course.
We will cover different types of maps, symbols, techniques, pacing, timing, strategies, poor weather navigation, mapping technology and devices, what to do when it goes wrong and much more!
The terrain covered on these courses will normally be rolling countryside but dependant on the level of experience within the group, we may go further afield. The terrain encountered will be footpaths, hills with short steep sections and the ground underfoot will be rough, flat, wet and sometimes rocky. A general level of fitness is required.
This course is suitable for the beginner through to intermediate level of navigation.
The maximum number of people on our course will be 4. This is part of the additional safety measures introduced by us to reflect the Covid-19 period.

Fantastic day on the Carneddau today with Steve. The navigation course was brilliant. I learned a lot with map and compass along with Steve’s knowledge of the mountains and the local history of the area we covered. I would highly recommend booking a place on one of these courses that Steve runs. I’m looking forward to go on the next one. Thank you Steve.
A brilliant course. I was a bit nervous to start as I had no confidence when using a map. By the end of the course I was "buzzing" and felt confident enough to try map reading in the future. Stephen was a great teacher; helpful, encouraging (without being patronising) and knowledgeable. Highly recommended
Amazing day out with Stephen yesterday learning essential skills. We were out all day learning how to navigate with a map and compass whilst doing a beautiful walk. Stephen was also excellent in the lead up to the day out by keeping in touch, advising on areas to stay in, recommending a lovely bed and breakfast and even providing pick up service on arrival. All the little things added up to what has been a wonderful experience. I'm going away with lots more confidence on the mountains! Thank you Aim Higher!
