1 Day Winter Skills Snowdonia
Our winter skills courses in Snowdonia are designed to help you have safer mountain journeys when snow and ice are present. Venturing out during winter brings different challenges to summer conditions. Not only does the weather tend to be more challenging but the physical demands are also greater. We will show you how to plan a winter's journey. what to wear and carry and how to navigate in winter whilst choosing safe routes. We will cover the use of crampons, ice axe and how to select winter clothing and equipment. You will learn about planning a winter walk, winter weather, and develop a good awareness of winter conditions and how they affect walkers on the mountains. Avalanche awareness will be a constant theme both in theory and practise. By the end of the course you will feel confident to have your own winter adventures!
Normally based around the Carneddau, Glyderau or Snowdon massif mountain areas with the exact dates, location and itinerary reflecting the current weather and ground conditions.
The one day courses have short notice dates that reflect the changing winter conditions in Snowdonia.
Two day winter skills courses in Snowdonia normally align with more settled winter conditions where the snowpack is substantial and less likely to disappear overnight.

Helmet, ice axe and crampon hire are included in the price. You will need your own winter boots.

A reasonable level of fitness is required for this course and you should have experience of summer mountain walking.
If winter conditions deteriorate at short notice we will still have a great mountain day out, make the most of the conditions and cover the course syllabus as best we can.
Note: All our staff are qualified, insured, experienced and hold current first aid qualifications.

We started our day from the car park and made our way along the Llanberis path covering along the way choice of routes, weather, clothing and equipment and the use of ice axe and crampons. Steve at all times was professional, very encouraging and great company. Great day with a great guy and look forward to my next time.
